STORYTELLERS

We told stories once.

To each other, about each other, for each other,

Other people’s tales and our own.

We shared them with our people,

Our group, community, tribe,

Filled with funny, sad, noble characters,

These stories we told,

Changed us, surprised us,

And made us think of what we might become,

Some day when we could step past ourselves,

Our legacy and lives,

And exchange living for our dreams.

It was a good thing,

We made for ourselves,

A place filled with purpose,

Ethereal as air,

Such that when we look back,

It’s hard to recognize the thing,

That brought us all together,

That love of each other alone in the world,

Struggling to make sense of things,

And recognizing our stories, shared,

As momentary as they were,

Are all we will ever know.
