REVOLUTION WILL NOT WORK

She screamed and howled
As they dragged her onto the scaffold
And they finally, all, collectively,
Stopped.
As it dawned on them,
Maybe for the first time,
That these were human beings,
About to be killed.
Revolution,
Being what it is,
All too familiar to us,
We need to try something else.
Re-doing what we’ve done,
For a few hundred years of peace,
Will not be good enough this time.
To evolve,
We must recognize,
What’s done is done and cannot be undone.
Using our own fiction of the past,
As justification,
Saying we are “just being human”,
Will not help us going forward.
Something else must take its place.
A rejection of this binary dissection of ourselves,
Overdosing on over simplification,
You over there and me over here,
Will not get it done.
Together,
We need to find our own,
Ways to move,
With firm resistance to outdated notions of tribe,
Celebrating individuals in community,
Reclaiming the disciplined acceptance of neighbors,
Who share quiet stillness,
Patient practice,
Strength, resilience and love.
