DAY JOB

The Duke of Milan

A painter,
He trained as a courtier,
And got good at it.
Eventually he was considered a seasoned diplomat.
At 26,
The Duke of Milan,
Gave him a big assignment.
Take these gifts of gold and silver,
Horses, tapestries and other paintings,
And travel to the Spanish court,
And woo the King into alliance with Mantua.
Facing the danger of highway robbery,
The difficulties of getting a King and his officials to decide anything,
And fending off alternating waves of stress and boredom,
He eventually, succeeded and returned to Mantua,
To receive a commission for several paintings,
And a pat on the back from the Duke.
Life lesson:
Finding the right day job is important.
