PROPINQUITY

Look closely,
No, I mean really close.
When you’re this close,
Normally,
We’d kiss or move away.
But you just look,
At my teeth,
Worn from years of eating.
God knows what else
You might see,
When you’re that close to my face.
Stay close, looking, for 45 minutes.
You make me feel seen,
When I think about it,
More than you know.
You step past the shitty morning you’ve had,
Which you told me in detail,
While I, mouth full of dental knives, said nothing.
You look into my mouth,
And see all that bad stuff in there,
And pick away,
Until it’s gone.
Then smile when you’re finished.
“There, all done.”
