VALENTINE’S DAY 2022

I LOVE YOU

Valentine’s Day
Your SI,
My knees,
Your calves,
My back,
Everything so creaky.
Still, we keep walking in the dazzling sunlight,
Of an overly warm February morning.
Dogs eager and ready to run,
Should there be a squirrel or deer.
Dear,
Is what this is,
The sound of our boots crunching on rain starved dirt,
Our hearts beating like they’ve done,
For a while now.
It’s not always pretty,
This love,
But there nonetheless,
In a laugh at the familiar,
A memory shared,
Or even a thought,
About the future.
What we have made for ourselves,
Is sturdy.
Depend upon each other,
Lean in if you need to,
Hold on.
Touch hands.
Keep walking.
