WALK THE DOG

We walk,
The dog, her, and me behind,
In the sun,
Up the big hillside.
It is warm
But there’s a breeze.
I said, Nothing truly
Feels “good”
Any more,
Like it used to.
That lift of energy,
Bolt of life,
Adrenaline, endorphins,
Wending their way
Thru me.
It’s not like that now.
But that’s just fine.
Joints creak, pop, and snap,
And we walk further up,
Heat, sweat,
Familiar heart beating,
Thoughts releasing,
Giving way to this moment,
Now.
Just the sound and feel of it,
Dog too,
Alive and alert,
He feels it,
I know it,
The joy in movement.
How lucky we are,
To have this,
One more day.
