Family.

This blood connection.

But sometimes thru choice,

Or will,

Or decision,

Like a marriage.

We bond ourselves

To each other

Forever.

A vow made,

A promise to keep,

To stay together.

Be GOOD to each other

ALL the time.

So, what I mean is,

Kind,

Patient,

Forgiving,

Understanding,

Loving.

It’s a lot,

Agreeing to work together,

On becoming who we might be,

Our best selves,

And facing the truth

That sometimes,

We will fail.

And then,

We make,

Someone else,

Or bring,

Someone else,

Into the world.

Knowing what they will go thru.

And we agree,

To watch,

And help when we can,

Because,

That’s what’s required

Of us and our vow.

A promise

To be there

If they fall,

Not,

Intercede, interfere

Or force our way into their lives

Just,

Simply,

Be there.

Until they can stand again.

And,

If need be,

Do it again and again.

Irrespective of outcome.

Because,

Well,

That’s what you signed up for,

Because,

With love,

The truth is,
