WHAT WE’RE SUPPOSED TO DO

What We’re Supposed to Do
You gather,
sing songs of joy and shared grief,
to stoke resilience,
to the ways of the world.
You connect.
Tell stories,
remind each other
who you are,
where you come from,
where you hope to go.
Moderns call it networking,
you know it more simply,
Community.
For thousands of years it has worked
to save us from ourselves,
bringing us out of one,
into many.
You make meals, break bread, talk, sing,
and practice together.
Healing yourselves.
Like strong, resilient people do.
Transformed by the collective balm
of what it is to be together.
Everything you’ve ever done
has led you here,
merit and good karma,
earned, delivered,
and accumulating,
all at once.
