It started with such a simple thing,

A thoughtful, reflective, respectful monk

Wonders,

Are we really doing this the right way?

There was a tradition,

You have a question, an insight regarding scripture,

Something you wish to debate,

You nail it to the door of the church.

Post something,

And we’ll talk about it,

And with that,

The match was lit,

Leaving the rest of us

Dealing with the aftermath.

Terrorism, war, and the rest of it,

In the name of the faithful and secularist angst.

These tools are fire,

Placed in our hands.

Speak gently to one another,

Lest you end up,

Scorching all of us.
