PLEASE DON’T

There has to be a better way to get old,

Then just doing what you set out to do in your 20’s and 30’s,

You had ambition then,

An indivisible hope,

Born from lack of experience.

But maybe now, there is something else you can do?

I’m not talking about golf.

Or staying home and tending your garden.

Although, a little of that couldn’t hurt.

I’m talking about

Showing us how to age with grace,

Taking advantage

Of opportunities for wisdom,

When and where it’s most needed.

Learn to be still,

Shed what you have,

Learn to pray with intelligence and focus.

And all your heart.

But for god’s sake,

Please don’t carry on as usual.
