AMARILLO

We drove across the country.
Twice.
You and I,
Your feet on the dash,
Summer light thru the window,
Crossword in hand.
A four-letter word for when lips meet.
We stopped to eat in Amarillo,
And got a local paper.
I suggested an apartment.
You laughed.
We’re building a life,
Together,
Not a stop over here on the road.
Eyes forward into the future,
Shoulders firm and strong,
Headed for God knows where,
Together.
Forever.
