What you said in Middle School

Is coming back to haunt you.

A woman who attended middle school with him said,

He was weird, talked about Hitler and swore a lot…

I’m thinking,

Yes, that sounds like middle school,

Middle school was horrible.

Are we forever doomed not to escape “ourselves”

This dream of persistence,

As if what we were then,

Somehow constitutes what we are now,

And therein lies an explanation

For the abhorrent behavior.

So random, chaotic and insane in the doing,

But in hindsight so thoroughly predictable.

But what if we are never ourselves twice,

Just the outcome of our next action,

Infinitely unpredictable and possible.
