HOPE AND A PRAYER

66,
Ambition still hanging about,
like an unforgotten friend.
All this wanting is messy,
letting go, messier still.
Letting go, to what?
Resolution to practice,
slow and deliberate discipline in everything,
without waver.
It can only be a relief,
from all this choosing and distinction,
which, in the end, leads us nowhere.
Sit with things a bit,
as long as you can,
measure things by what you learn about what you know,
the sunlight changing by the minute
Like you,
Be steady, be constant, be true.
