JUST KEEP SWIMMING

A Pacific Orange-Spine Unicornfish

You felt indestructible,
Omniscient,
the idea of your own impermanence,
your own fragility,
never came up.

The force of you,
was worth doing.

Energy for anything,
whatever came up,
you were in.

But slowly,
sometimes imperceptibly,
sometimes suddenly,
shockingly,
change,
was everywhere.

Dissipation and renewal were permanent,
and you,
what you thought was you,
were there in the middle of it.

Like that scene,
A man underwater swimming out of the shipwreck,
rising to the surface,
Ah ha!
I know how to get out of this!
Only to break the top of the ocean
and recognize you were in the middle of nowhere.
There you are,
In the middle of nowhere.

Part of things,
not separate at all.
Choices to make,
sure.

But knowing now, for sure,
the way you react to all of this,
Turmoil,
Is everything.
What you hold onto,
What you let go.

This is what there is,
do what you can,
fill you heart with love,
like the way you fill your lungs with air,
Then let it all go.
