LIVING TOGETHER

Snow on a mountain

A supreme court justice and former Governor of New York,
Was accused of kissing the ass of the British King.
People gathered around the President’s house cursing him,
They threw stones at the Treasury Secretary when he spoke.
This was how we canceled you back then,
A nasty tweet or a frowny face,
Making us into a far more civilized democracy.
Half of us have been upset with things, seemingly forever.
There’s no way around it,
Living together,
Whether it is family, a marriage, or a country
Is going to be hard sometimes,
Particularly when we disagree on how things should go.
We cannot make every clash the end of things.
There will be times when it is best to part ways and say we’ve tried,
But those times are few and far between.
Learning to live together,
And keep our promises to one another,
Will always be our struggle.
