NOBODY’S PERFECT

How do you lead in a country like this one?
Because we want to follow
Or it sure seems like that.
We want to believe it can be better than this
Less suffering, less poverty, less guns, less government telling us what to do
But can it?
Nobody’s perfect
FDR drank like a fish, Kennedy had women coming and going, LBJ peed on the lawn,
And Lincoln wanted to lock up his critics whenever he could.
Are you wrestling with your demons or thinking you’ve got them licked?
We are flawed and wicked a great deal of the time
So what hope is there in that?
Faith, belief, ideas,
These are the tools that pull us forward
Into what we cannot see.
Really we just want someone to hold
The flashlight in the dark cave
And hope they will shine
The light on the bear
Before he eats us whole.
