25 MINUTES

“…the sword will remain the decisive factor till the end of the world”
In 1899 and 1907 we held two peace conferences,
Important people from all over the world attended,
They all sensed what was coming,
The advent of mechanized weaponry,
The revelations of our unconscious minds,
Misunderstood Darwinian analysis,
The fractious arguments over what is natural, progress and so on,
Civilization was doing what it does,
Threatening changes no one really understood.
And there we all were hoping to put a lid on it.
They discussed arms limitation and peace,
For about 25 minutes.
But it wasn’t to be,
War was considered “natural” if not,
Inevitable.
Progress, our biological imperative.
The right to defend oneself with what could be found or created
Inviolable.
The desperate wanting of enough or more
Insatiable.
What they left us with was,
As long as there is human stupidity, greed, ill will and delusion,
Bruised egos and bullies,
There will always be a reason to fight.
