PARENTING

PARENTING

Sitting across from my boss one day talking about our kids,
His son was in his late twenties and married,
Mine were much younger,
Yet we were both clearly worried about them,
As if we’d sent them off on a ship across the seas.
I thought, “My god, it doesn’t ever stop, does it?”
This worry and desperate heart stopping, breathtaking, love and hope,
From which you will (gladly) never recover,
The need to understand your role in something you are a part of,
But never in control,
Of.
There you are,
Complicit in the making,
But never fully in the knowing,
Of,
This mystery,
This wonderful, magnificent, gift,
Of,
A life.
