FACTUALLY SPEAKING

Road Between Trees

Today facts,
Infinite in number,
Need checking,
In order to discern truth,
Or where
The truth of the thing in question
Lies.
“Science” and reason,
With faith discarded as irrational,
Has led us to this precipice.
But what of these facts?
Since we can never know them all,
We pull back, eventually, in frustration,
And cling to a few we think (or believe)
Will explain ourselves to our selves.
A lens we cling to, to see the world,
Provides a less strenuous antidote,
To all these facts.
But faith, passion, belief, gut intuition,
Can move us in ways facts can’t.
These things can transform us,
Unite us,
They can help form connection,
Thru feeling, emotion,
By seeing,
The gesture,
Soft, graceful, fluid,
Perfectly unexplained.
Or hearing,
Birdsong in the morning or the strumming of a guitar surrounded in silence,
The sound of your brother’s breath next to you as you walk,
These things reach out to us,
Touch our hearts,
And in doing so,
Provide insight,
That helps,
Lead us to love.
