SPIN

We like to think,
That’s what it takes for an idea to take hold.
Politicians do it. Churches do it.
The internet and newspapers,
Your neighbors,
Your friends,
Your family.
Everyone wants to spin you,
So, dizzy as you may be,
You may jump on board,
So you are not alone,
And can lean on others,
To prevent you from falling over.
But there’s another way to do it.
Sit quietly and breathe,
Become aware of the sunshine or the breeze,
Or just the air around you,
Maybe walk a bit,
Or pull some weeds,
The judgements, opinions will all still be there,
In your brain,
Spinning,
Where they’ve always been,
All along.
But for now,
Let them go.
