THE ACCUMULATION OF SMALL EFFECTS

“The accumulation of small effects, good or bad, creates a pattern of life, a path of life, a life.”

— Jeffrey Brooks

Yesterday,

You went thru all the old markers and crayons,

All the things that kids collect as they grow,

One by one you sorted them out,

What works, what doesn’t,

What might benefit another child,

What was worn out.

You got out some old hats,

And found someone to give them to.

You made a salad,

Spun the lettuce dry and placed it in a bowl,

Cut up some veggies too,

To go with our soup,

And a silly movie we watched together,

Laughing at it and ourselves.

These small things,

You do each day that make up our life,

And remind me,

Though we change and age,

Nothing will prevent us,

From accruing the benefits of these small things.
