AND THERE WE ALL WERE

And there we all were,
Putting labels on olive oil bottles,
Tying a ribbon,
Using a hair dryer to seal them properly.
One by one,
We stacked them in boxes,
To share with guests,
With us,
Family.
There is no telling what happens next,
But last night,
After the bottles were all done,
And the spread of magnificent food laid out,
We sat together,
In the heat,
And talked about our journey,
Over these last few years,
And praised the will, resilience, and strength
Of this next generation.
We will do it differently than you,
But try and make it better,
Just like you did.
Thank you for being willing to come this far,
To share what can never be taken away,
The feel of a hug in someone’s arms,
And a connection to generational truths,
That will outlast us all.
Love, family, friends.
