CONCUSSION

a view of a mountain and skies

Your brain smashed up against its walls,
You stagger,
Helpless.
Filled with confusion giving way to
Fear, anger, disgust,
It seems like the same world,
But it’s not.
You don’t trust anyone,
Betrayal is all you can think,
You lash out, then recant,
Because what’s left of you says to do so.
It all seems grim,
But then,
You’ve been knocked off your feet before
So you try and recover but can’t,
So you rest in particular ways,
Never quite giving up,
But letting go of what you can’t help.
You walk,
Trees are alive with color,
After some time,
An unnamable thought comes,
Returning to you,
In some form,
A breeze maybe,
Sun glittering,
A wider horizon,
You hear yourself breathe,
Your breath,
Knowing it’s your breath and breathing,
Knowing somehow returning,
From the depth of all the times that have passed,
Like light,
Eventually,
You will stand again.
