FALL

Leaves turning to shades of Yellow, Gold and Amber
the stars
Photos by Michael Lushington

Leaves turning to shades of Yellow, Gold and Amber,
Red, Pink and Purple,
Crunching at our feet,
Crowding us as we walk along.
Wind whooshing by setting off memories
We had set aside but not forgotten.
Generations have lived this way,
Heading into winter,
Facing fear ,
The unknown of things unknown,
Wondering if we’ll see another spring.
Our sympathetic nervous system,
Suggesting things may be teetering.
Even so,
We will gather,
Bring food and wine,
Hold hugs just a moment longer,
Share gratitude to be standing here,
Again, after so many years gone past.
We silently share our prayer,
Come what may…
We are here.
Knowing what we know,
The deep and secret knowledge,
Of family and love.
