FOUR WAY STOP

At a four way intersection,
we stop,
for a moment,
Or longer.
Or we forge on ahead,
Hoping for the best.
If we stop,
we eye each other.
For permission?
Direction?
Or to tell each other what we are going to do
Everything you need to know
about us,
Is there.
In that moment,
We will decide what we want,
Or what is best for each of us.
If you hesitate,
Are you weak?
Respectful?
Cautious?
Kind?
If you just go,
Are you bold?
Decisive?
Arrogant?
Unwilling to wait your turn?
There is no telling what may happen.
All the rules in the world
won’t shake what we learn
by looking at each other.
If we look,
long enough,
we may each get what we want.
And pass through this life together.
