I CAN’T GET NO

When I’m driving in my car
And the man comes on the radio
And he’s tellin’ me more and more
  ‘Bout some useless information
  Supposed to fire my imagination

The Rolling Stones were frustrated,
Seems enlightenment,
True peace was hard to come by.

I try and I try and I try

But the struggle’s been going on,
a lot longer than that,
maybe since the beginning.
But it’s good to know
others have been thinking about it.

These days it seems to be everywhere.
If only we could put down our phones, turn off our computers or TVs,
those culprits that have stolen our attention.
Then we’d have it

But of course that’s not it.
We have only ourselves.
Wherever you go, whatever you look at
whatever you do,

There’s just you.

(with gratitude to my teacher, Jeffrey M. Brooks, for the inspiration)
