TRAINING

We wait for it.
That millenarian moment when everything will change,
Transforming us into what?
Our better selves?
Or perhaps something or someone else entirely.
But historians know what most of us miss.
When you unravel the details backwards,
Looking at all the seemingly tiny stuff,
Leading up to those moments,
Luther, Gavrilo Princip, JFK and so on,
There was something there all along just waiting for its moment to crystallize.
Pivot points in history,
Are imagined in the present looking backward,
And not what we think.
Evolution is slow.
In the meantime, we train,
Practicing things we know comprise a good life.
Preparing for what we can become,
Determined to be strong,
Knowing wisdom, courage, temperance, justice
And love,
Are best developed for the long haul.
